At the “Guesting at the Philologicum” exhibition, archived documents and works of art from the archive of the Munich Academy of Fine Arts provide a fascinating insight into the academy as a place of learning. Artistic luminaries such as Alphonse Mucha, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Giorgio de Chirico numbered among the students around the turn of the 20th century. Later, the academy would be firmly grafted into the artistic policy of the National Socialists. Following a muted reboot after 1946, student protests shook the institution with vociferous criticism of its archaic structures in 1968/69.

What defines the Academy of Fine Arts as a place of learning to this day? What issues concern the students during their training? New additions to the archive, including artistic works and documents produced by lecturers and students, offer insights that have never been disclosed before.
